This is a beautiful, classic hotel. Weimar is the cultural capital of Germany -- it doesn't seem to be as widely known outside the country, since most of the other guests in the town are German, but it's a wonderful vacation destination.
The Elephant itself is part of the history of the city -- located on main market square, it was frequented by Goethe, among many other famous guests.
Rooms are very nice, and SPG recognition is excellent. Of particular note is the food -- Anna Amalia, a Michelin-starred restaurant, is a great choice for dinner, and is also where the hotel's breakfast is served. Elephantenkeller, in the cellar, is a more local-cuisine focused restaurant, and also excellent.
A caveat is it is a historic building without air conditioning -- however, because it was designed this way, there is good airflow with windows open, so even in the summer it was a comfortable temperature in my room. Also, several of the hotel restaurants are closed on certain days of the week, so if you want to try them (and you should), you should ensure your stay includes days they will be open.
I'd strongly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Weimar, and visiting Weimar for anyone looking for a cultural and culinary destination in Germany.
